Generational Trauma and the Passing of My Mother

I recently lost my mom and made a page to honor her memory. This is hard for me. I will be sharing parts of her story to seek justice for Linda and other victims of isolation.

Mask Training is Better than Altitude Training

Here's Why...

August 13, 2020

Post quarantine, we have a lot of catching up to do. We are catching up on work, past due bills, catching up with friends, and catching up on our workouts. I came across something interesting recently while at the gym. There was a kiosk stationed near the exiting gym traffic with a salesperson selling the Lasheen Sport Mask with exhalation valves. Here in Las Vegas, all of the gyms are open today, but its mandatory that you enter and exit the gym wearing a mask. Making things even safer, gym rats that don't want the Department of Health to shut down their local sports club, also have to mask-up on while moving in-between workout stations, and doing any activity that isn't strenuous.

Even if you are taking a walk on the treadmill, you should most likely be wearing a mask unless you're working up a sweat, or are prone to respiratory fatigue from hyperventilation. I had immediate objections to this, ... continued on LinkedIn...

Teen Insecurity and Mental Health on Social Media

It is no secret that we are fully in the information age and technology has become omnipresent in virtually everything we do in our daily lives. It has brought about so much great stuff like getting things done faster and easier, entertainment, and better communication globally. Just like everything else, there are pros and there are cons and one of the major cons is the negative effects technology can have on kid’s self-esteem via unrealistic expectations on social media. Apparently, it seems we are all hooked to some form of a variety of different social media available especially our growing kids. However, it has its pitfalls.

Listening to the rocking music of AceyTres titled “Instecure,” he sang on the negativity of social media and some of the unhealthy obsessions and expectations many go through in their quest for acceptance and validation.

Unrealistic Obsessions/Expectations

A lot of the social media handles that are popular on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook all paint this picture of perfection that teens and young adults seem to aspire to albeit at the expense of their peace of mind. This seeming perfection cuts across physical looks in the form of highly filtered photos to a portrayal of perfect experiences and lifestyle that very few people can realistically live up to. It is no secret today that people only post the best moments of their lives on social media. This in itself cannot be faulted, but when people want to model their lives based on the facade of social media, we have a major issue on our hands. Anxiety and depression begins to set in when they don’t meet up to these unrealistic obsessions and expectations.

Immorality

The norm today is that of video vixens getting the most attention and they achieve this mostly by posting provocative pictures and exposing their bodies for “the gram” as they call it. The boundaries for what is acceptable is continually being pushed further and further and very young kids are also lining up to follow suit. Attention is the sauce of the internet and everybody wants it at all cost. So it is no wonder today that you find young people engaging in various forms of immorality on the popular websites just to get followers, likes and retweets.

Unhealthy Habits

In the quest for perfection, one of the major areas that is focused on or preyed on is that of weight and physical look. There is a craze for any form of solution to excess body fat and this has brought to life so many scam pages dealing in “fast action belly fat burners”, “waist trainers”, “diet tea”, “detoxification regimens” and general quack practitioners and trainers who just go online and sell dreams. The result is engagement in all forms of unhealthy habits in a bid to lose weight at all cost and look like the size zero models they see frequently on TV.

These are by no means the only negative aspects of social media today but they are some of the most prominent ones and they are linked to one issue that teens and young adults have to deal with every day of their lives…insecurity. Insecurity will have them doubting themselves and their worth and there is no telling what they will and will not do in order to satisfy this gaping hole in themselves. We see with cyber-bullying and internet trolls today, that not all attention on social media is healthy and wanted. In order to live a happy and fulfilling life, or sustain a healthy relationship, they need to be able to accept themselves and understand that it is all smoke and mirrors on the internet.

From Meaningful to Measurable S.M.A.R.T goals for Personal Development

I remember when I was a kid, in one of our first apartments, the frame around the kitchen door had a horizontal marking on it from the previous tenant that looked like they had recorded a child's height. I started to pick up where they left off and tracked my own height in the same location.
